How To Use
Onsior by Novartis
ONSIOR is an anti-inflammatory and analgesic drug that belongs to the general class of drugs known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). ONSIOR is used in the treatment of...
- pain and inflammation
- chronic joint pain and stiffness
- pain associated with surgeries
ONSIOR suppresses inflammation and pain by blocking the production of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are chemicals in the body that promote inflammation, pain and fever, increase blood clotting, and protect the lining of the stomach from damaging acids. Prostaglandins are divided into 2 primary groups according to their cyclooxygenase (COX) enzyme. COX-1 enzymes are responsible for maintaining platelet function, maintaining kidney function, and protecting the stomach lining from stomach acids. COX-2 enzymes are responsible for producing pain and inflammation associated with trauma or tissue damage.
Most NSAIDs affect both types of prostaglandins; however, ONSIOR is unique. It can block the enzyme responsible for producing pain and inflammation without affecting the function of the kidneys, platelets, and stomach lining.
