Atropine Basics
  • Atropine Sulfate is available by prescription only.
  • Atropine Ophthalmic Solution is an anticholinergic agent.
  • Anticholinergic agents act on the parasympathetic nervous system causing the muscles in your pet's eyes to become relaxed.
  • Atropine Ophthalmic Solution is used to dilate the pupil when there is an inflammatory condition or in post-surgery situations.

  • Other painful conditions associated with the eye
  • Atropine works by paralyzing the sphincter muscle of the iris of the eye, which results in the dilation of the pupil.

Atropine Warnings
  • Keep out of the reach of children and pets.
  • Do not use in pets with known allergies to Atropine.
  • Atropine should not be used in animals with glaucoma.
  • Repeated use can cause a substantial decrease in tear production.
  • Atropine may cause sensitivity to sunlight.
  • Some dogs and cats do not tolerate Atropine Ophthalmic Solution.
  • Store at room temperature.


Atropine Directions
  • Use as directed by your veterinarian.
  • Wash your hands before administering Atropine.
  • Do not touch the tip of the tube with your hands or with your pet's eyes.
  • Keep the cap secured properly when not using Atropine.
  • Store Atropine at room temperature.

Dosage FAQs
  • In the case of a missed dose of Atropine, apply the dose as soon as you remember, or wait until it is time to give the next dose. DO NOT GIVE A DOUBLE DOSE OF ATROPINE.
  • In the case of a suspected overdose, flush the eye with water and contact your veterinarian.

If you notice any behavioral or physiological changes in your pet while administering Atropine, contact your veterinarian immediately.
