  • D.E.S. increases the responsiveness of the smooth muscle of the bladder neck, tightening the muscle and preventing urine from leaking.

D.E.S. Facts
  • D.E.S. is used as an extra-label medication veterinary medicine.
  • D.E.S. can only be obtained by compounding pharmacies.
  • D.E.S. is effective in spayed female dogs suffering from incontinence.

D.E.S. Warnings
  • Do not use in pets with known allergies to D.E.S.
  • Never use this medication in pregnant or lactating animals.
  • Pregnant women, or women trying to become pregnant, should avoid contact with D.E.S.
  • Do not use in animals with cancers that may be worsened by estrogens, such as breast cancer.
  • Prolonged use of D.E.S. may cause ovarian cancer.
  • Excessive doses can cause a decrease in platelets, red blood cells, and white blood cells.
  • D.E.S. can increase the chances of uterine infections (pyometra) in unspayed females.
  • Animals should be monitored once a month during D.E.S. treatment.


D.E.S. Directions
  • Use as directed by your veterinarian.
  • Follow the instructions printed on the prescription label.
  • Store D.E.S at room temperature.
  • Be sure to complete the prescription to ensure a full recovery, even if your pet seems to be improving, unless instructed otherwise by your veterinarian.
  • Duration of administration depends on the condition being treated, the response to the medication, and development of any adverse effects.
  • Allow your pet access to plenty of water.
  • Blood and platelet counts should be monitored on a regular basis.
  • For use in dogs ONLY.

D.E.S. Dosage for DOGS
  • Give 0.1 to 1 mg.
  • Give by mouth once a day for 3 - 5 days
  • After initial treatment, dose should be decreased to once a week treatment

D.E.S. Dosage FAQs
  • In the case of a missed dose of D.E.S., give it as soon as you remember or wait until it is time to give the next dose. DO NOT GIVE A DOUBLE DOSE OF D.E.S.
  • In the case of an overdose of D.E.S., seek attention from your veterinarian.
  • The following symptoms could be signs of an overdose...
  • sudden diarrhea
  • increased thirst
  • unusual bruising or bleeding
  • pale mucous membranes
  • vaginal discharge

If you notice any behavioral or physiological changes in your pet while administering D.E.S., contact your veterinarian immediately.

  • Allergic reactions and serious side effects are rare, but in the case of an allergic reaction or a serious side effect, you should stop D.E.S. treatment and seek veterinary attention.
