Mirtazapine Basics
Mirtazapine is available by prescription only.
Mirtazapine has anti-nausea and antiemetic effects on dogs and cats.
Mirtazapine is often given to animals undergoing chemotherapy or to animals suffering from stomach diseases, renal failure, or other conditions where treatment causes a loss of appetite and nausea.
The anti-nausea properties of mirtazapine block signals from the intestines and stomach to the brain that would otherwise trigger nausea.
Mirtazapine Warnings
Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to mirtazapine.
Do not use within two weeks of a Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor (MAOI).
Use with caution if your pet it pregnant or nursing.
