Itraconazole Compound is triazole antifungal. It treats many types of mycoses, or fungal infections, including aspergillosis, cryptococcal meningitis, blastomycosis, histoplasmosis, superficial dermatophytosis, and candidiasis. It also treats sporotrichosis and coccidioides immitis osteomyelitis in horses. This compound works by changing fungi cell walls, compromising the contents of the fungal cells.

Itraconazole Compound requires a prescription from your veterinarian. It is available in a capsules and oral suspension.

Itraconazole Compound Directions

Give as directed by your veterinarian, and follow all instructions printed on the prescription label. Give with food. Complete the entire prescription unless instructed otherwise by your veterinarian. Dosage and duration of treatment depend on the condition being treated and response to the medication.

Store at room temperature, protected from light and moisture.

Itraconazole Compound Warnings

Keep out of reach of children and pets.  Do not use in pets with known allergies to azole anti fungal agents. Use with caution in pets with hepatic impairment or with cardiac problems. Also use with caution in pets that are pregnant or lactating. Some medications may interact with Itraconazole. Therefore, inform your veterinarian of any and all medications your pet may be taking. This is especially important if your pet is currently taking antacids, benzodiazepines, buspirone, corticosteroids, cyclosporine, digoxin, or macrolide antibiotics. Finally, if you notice any behavioral or physiological changes in your pet while administering this compound, contact your veterinarian immediately.

Adverse Reactions and Serious Side Effects

Adverse reactions and serious side effects are rare, however, they can occur. In the case of a more serious reaction, seek immediate veterinary attention.
