Selegiline is used to treat disorders associated with the nervous system in older dogs. Like people, dogs will show many of the same signs of aging.
Selegiline is thought to increase the concentration of dopamine. Higher levels of dopamine improve many cognitive processes.
In some cases, selegiline can also be used to treat Cushing's disease (hyperadrenocorticism) in dogs.
Selegiline is available in a 5 mg capsule or tablet.

Selegiline is not helpful in adrenal gland-based Cushing's disease.
Store at room temperature.

Be sure to complete the prescription to ensure a full recovery, even if your pet seems to be improving, unless instructed otherwise by your veterinarian.
Duration of administration depends on the condition being treated, the response to the medication, and the development of any adverse effects.

Dogs should be re-evaluated 2 months after treatment begins.
