Ondansetron Basics

Ondansetron is available by prescription only.

Ondansetron is used to treat severe vomiting in cats and dogs, such as the vomiting associated with chemotherapy.

Ondansetron inhibits serotonin responses to treat vomiting.

Ondansetron is used as an extra-label drug by veterinarians.

Ondansetron Warnings

Keep out of the reach of children and pets.

Use with caution in animals that are pregnant or nursing.

Tell your veterinarian any and all medications your pet is taking before starting ondansetron.

Do not use in pets sensitive to ondansetron or other similar medications

Collies may be sensitive to ondansetron.

Store at room temperature, protected from light and moisture.

Ondansetron Directions

Use as directed by your veterinarian.

Follow the instructions printed on the prescription label.

Ondansetron may be given with or without food.

Use caution when handling ondansetron.

Ondansetron Dosage

Dosage for Dogs

Give 0.5-1 mg/kg of body weight.

Give by mouth 2 times each day.

Dosage for Cats

Give 0.1-1 mg/ kg of body weight.

Give by mouth 2-4 times each day.

If you notice any behavioral or physiological changes in your pet while giving ondansetron, contact your veterinarian immediately.
