• Allopurinol is also used as a treatment for gout in birds.

• Keep out of the reach of children and pets.

• Allopurinol should be used cautiously in patients with low renal or hepatic function.

• Allopurinol may not be safe in pregnant or nursing animals.

• This treatment should be given with a low purine diet.

• Do not use in pets with known hypersensitivity to allopurinol.

• Treatment may increase the toxicity of azathioprine and mercaptopurine.

• Allopurinol may increase the effect of warfarin.

• Use as directed by your veterinarian.

• Follow the instructions printed on the prescription label.

• Give allopurinol with a low purine diet.

• Check your dog's treats and foods to make sure they meet this dietary restriction.

• If your pet experiences GI upset after taking allopurinol, give allopurinol with food.
